Janelle Nahmabin was a long-time supporter of Calm ‘n Scents Aromatherapy and Metaphysical Store in the Northgate Plaza. So when the store was listed for sale, she jumped at the chance to live life as her authentic self and take on the new challenge of business ownership.

“I love what I do every single day,” she says.  “The energy of it all. It’s a high-vibing place.”

In the first five months of ownership, she has focused her efforts on creating a place where consumers can find access to local artisans and their pottery, jewelry, dream catchers and more.

Raised in Sarnia in the First Nations healing traditions of her grandmother, Carole Pelletier, Janelle was no stranger to holistic, natural, earth-based practices to a healthy lifestyle. She says studying herbs, plants and flowers in the fields around her grandmother’s house helped prepare her for ownership at Calm ‘n Scents where they prepare their own all-natural bath and body products and aromatherapy merchandise.

“We make everything with love,” she says without a hint of irony. Janelle and the staff are so devoted to the products and service of their clients that they pour that devotion into everything they create.

“I love to help anybody. I’m not going to sell you things that you don’t need. But I’m going to find you things that help you on your journey.”

With an inventory of cd’s, books, healing crystals, salt lamps, jewelry and gemstones, essential oils and more, Janelle says people in all stages of their personal journey find their way to the store. Through conversation with the knowledgeable staff they continue on their path, having found kindred spirits at the store.

‘The staff is so excited to be here. We’re all taking different courses and we’re all on a journey.”

The mother of three young girls, Janelle is excited to present a series of children’s workshops aimed at empowering children. The classes are free for children and involve a number of activities to help build each child’s self-esteem.

Janelle and her grandmother are also hosting a monthly Medicine Woman’s series, exploring many of the traditions that Janelle was raised with. She says there is a sense of an awakening to much of this information.

“We’re really happy to be a part of what’s going on.”

Janelle and her staff are looking forward to their big event this spring – Love & Light Psychic Expo by Calm ‘n Scents at the Dante Club – featuring psychics, and other alternative health practitioners. Tickets are $10 available at Calm ‘n Scents.
